BEEP!! BEEP!! Said the Jeep.
Sitting proudly, with a thin white cloth draped over his broad shoulder. Grease was smeared across his face. Thundering shouts could be heard from the left and right, yet he chose to ignore the harsh words and insults that came his way.
It was a very exhausting day for Miguel Regua, a Jeepney driver for many years. Who would have thought that sitting could be so tiring? Critical thinking is a MUST in driving. The shaky floor, and challenging rocky roads made things more difficult. He tightly gripped the steering wheel of the enormous vehicle. Sweats were dripped uncontrollably from his forehead, mixing with the grease of hard work. The sound of the honk pressed with full force filled the air. Yet, despite the challenges, we trusted him, knowing that our lives were in capable hands, undeniably, the driver has the skill.

Several months have passed, but the memory still lingers. The fear that it caused affected not only the drivers but also the entire society. The Jeepney phase out was a serious struggle that we could have experienced amidst the pandemic. Can you imagine the struggles of the students? The workers? And of course, the drivers. The unavailability of Jeepneys truly left us in shock.
Luckily, this issue was soon forgotten and I hope that it remains history as just a memory I want to keep. The brake, which symbolizes a stopping point, is a sign to top discrimination. "Barya lang po sa Umaga", said by the Jeepney Army. "Kahit na barya lang din and kinikita."

This also gives me a nostalgic feeling. What a lovely moment that is, appreciating everything was something that money really can't buy.
